Location: Somerset
Start date: ASAP
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 per year
Reports to: Managing Director
Manages: Junior Estimator
We’re working with a leading interiors and fit-out specialist to recruit an experienced Estimator with a solid commercial background and the ability to support project delivery from tender through to final account.
This role is hands-on, commercially led and central to how the business secures and delivers profitable work. You’ll be involved across the full lifecycle — producing accurate take-offs and estimates, engaging with the supply chain, supporting operational delivery, and managing variations and final accounts.
You’ll also have line management responsibility for a Junior Estimator, so team leadership and mentoring is a key part of this role.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Producing accurate take-offs and estimates for retail, commercial and public sector interior fit-out projects
- Preparing tender packs, interrogating subcontractor returns and negotiating contract sums
- Leading pre-construction commercial planning — profitability models, procurement schedules, and risk assessments
- Supporting delivery teams with on-site valuations, variation management, and final account submissions
- Ensuring all pricing and supply chain activity aligns with JCT/NEC contract terms
- Staying commercially sharp on house accounts and pricing exercises to keep the offer competitive
- Managing and mentoring a Junior Estimator — setting the standard on performance, development, and commercial discipline
- Proven experience in estimating and cost management in the fit-out, interiors, or specialist subcontracting sector
- Strong understanding of JCT and NEC contracts
- Confident managing project risks, supply chain relationships, and client negotiations
- Proficient with estimating tools (e.g., Bluebeam) and MS Office
- Clear communicator, comfortable presenting commercial submissions to leadership or clients
- Able to lead and develop a junior member of staff
- Commercially astute, organised, and comfortable working on multiple projects at once
- Estimator, Quantity Surveyor, Cost Manager or Commercial Manager with interiors experience
- Background in retail, commercial, or public sector fit-out projects
- BTEC or degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field
