Locum Child Protection Social Worker

Full-time | 37 hours per week | Hybrid working

Description

Knowsley Council is seeking an experienced and passionate Locum Social Worker to join our dynamic Child Protection team. This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable children and families, working in a supportive environment with a strong focus on quality practice, supervision, and manageable caseloads.
Based in Knowsley, you will work alongside skilled colleagues in a high-performing team committed to safeguarding children and promoting their welfare.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of children subject to child protection plans, children in need, and pre-proceedings work
  • Undertake thorough assessments and create effective, outcome-focused plans
  • Engage children and their families to build positive, strengths-based relationships
  • Chair core group meetings and attend child protection conferences, strategy meetings, and legal planning meetings
  • Prepare clear, evidence-based reports for conferences, reviews, and court proceedings
  • Work collaboratively with partners across health, education, police, and voluntary agencies
  • Ensure all interventions comply with relevant legislation, policy, and statutory guidance
  • Promote the voice of the child and prioritise their welfare at every stage of intervention
Requirements
  • Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration
  • Significant experience in statutory child protection, including court work and child protection planning
  • Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989, Working Together 2018, and other key legislation and guidance
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to manage complex cases in a timely and proportionate way
  • Confident in making sound, defensible decisions in line with safeguarding thresholds
  • Prepared to work flexibly in a busy team environment
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel within the borough
