I'm working with a London Borough who are seeking an experienced Interim Head of Waste & Green Spaces to lead a high-performing environmental services function.
This is a key leadership role managing a large frontline workforce (500+ via direct and agency routes) across a broad portfolio including waste management, street cleansing, parks and green spaces, cemeteries & crematoria, and depot operations. With up to 15 direct reports, you’ll be the strategic lead for service transformation, compliance, and innovation in line with corporate priorities and environmental policy.
Key Priorities:
- Lead and improve operational delivery of all frontline waste and green space services.
- Develop future strategy across waste, biodiversity, and carbon reduction.
- Drive commercial outcomes while ensuring high resident satisfaction.
- Lead cross-council collaboration, depot oversight, and multi-stakeholder engagement.
- Deliver against MTFF targets, ensuring robust budget control (c.£29m).
Ideal Profile:
- Proven senior-level experience in waste/environmental services within local government.
- Strong people leadership and operational management across complex services.
- Financially astute, politically aware, and comfortable operating in high-expectation environments.
- Ability to influence, collaborate, and bring energy to a large-scale workforce and strategic agenda.
