Highways Technician

Job Description

A local authority based in West London is looking for a Highways Technician to join their team. This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency role and the successful candidate will have a full relevant Highways qualification, experience in Highways and Traffic teams, extensive experience with CAD and GIS and ideally experience in a similar local authority position.

The main purpose of the role to provide technical support to the Traffic and Highways Asset team within Environment and Enterprise, enabling the team to achieve high service standards designed to improve the quality of life for residents and customers.

This role would be suitable for a Junior Engineer, Junior Project Manager, new graduate etc.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following;

Highways/Engineering Qualification

Experience in the use and operation of Exor CAD, GIS and imaging software and other appropriate electronic systems, and with a view to developing CAD skills

An understanding of appropriate Health and Safety, Environmental Management System and Construction Design and Management regulations

Basic competency in one or more basic engineering discipline and traffic design techniques

Must be able to respond to online queries

Must be able to design drawings for schemes

Must be able to record information to spreadsheets

The main responsibilities associated with this role are as follows;

Prepare detailed drawings, maps, stat drawings, estimates, designs and technical reports across a range of specialist engineering areas and to a a high standard for for approval

Carry out public consultation exercises for projects and schemes to ensure the production of fit for purpose design specifications

Assist with the preparation of committee reports, technical reports, proofs of evidence briefing notes and correspondence

Contribute to the development and assist with the implementation of appropriate systems to enhance service delivery

Ensure that all Council Asset Management software databases, including Exor, are operational and maintained to be fit for purpose, and provide asset data when required

To coordinate and prioritise reactive maintenance works within the constraints of available budgets, including passing works orders to third party contractors

The client is looking to move quickly with appointing to this position and as such is offering an hourly rate of £25 p/hr Umbrella Ltd (Approx. £620 p/week NET after deductions).
