Homeless Officer

6-month contract

Job overview
To undertake homeless assessment casework and associated functions to enable the client to meet its statutory responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and manage cases of homeless and potentially homeless individuals.
  • Conduct detailed enquiries and provide outcomes to service users.
  • Advise on rights of occupancy and implications of decisions regarding accommodation.
  • Liaise with third parties to gather necessary information for assessments.
  • Negotiate with housing providers to prevent or delay homelessness.
  • Maintain accurate case notes and update case management systems.
  • Provide comprehensive advice and support to service users, guiding them through available options.
  • Participate in out-of-hours emergency rota.


Homeless Officer Knowledge and Experience:

  • Working within homelessness, social housing, or related support environments.
  • Interviewing, managing caseloads, and updating work-based systems.
  • Managing expectations and challenging behavior of vulnerable clients.
  • Conducting risk assessments and working within policies and procedures.
  • Detailed inquiries in homelessness, working within a performance framework, welfare benefits system, multi-disciplinary environments.


Homeless Officer Working Conditions and Requirements:

  • Extensive travel throughout the district, including home and community visits.
  • Lone working as part of the role.
  • Participation in out-of-hours rota.
  • Regular interaction with vulnerable individuals exhibiting challenging behavior.
  • Enhanced DBS
  • Ability to work independently and engage in lone working situations.


The Package
This is a temporary, Homeless Officer role,37 hours per week for an initial 3 months, covering the recruitment process for a permanent team member, meaning the role could be extended, or become permanent.
