Full Time

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Housing Assessment Officer to join our team in Leicestershire on a full-time temporary ongoing basis, with an initial contract period of 3 months. The Housing Assessment Officer will be responsible for carrying out statutory duties under the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction act 2017.This role requires in-depth knowledge of housing legislation, and experience working closely with members of the public.

  • Experience working in a similar role, within social housing or homelessness - 3 years
  • Knowledge of housing legislation, policies, and procedure, including the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage workload efficiently, and meet deadlines
  • Experience providing an effective service to members of the public
  • Experience of managing budgets and expenditure
  • Ability to manage own time and work load

Role Expectations

  • Provide housing advice to applicants, landlords, legal and financial institutions and any other external housing agencies
  • Undertake interviews and operational prioritisation procedures related to maintaining the Housing Register within HomeseekerPlus- the county wide choice based lettings scheme
  • Assess homelessness applications and make decisions, keeping a record of all assessments and relevant documentation
  • Assist the Homelessness Prevention Officers in all aspects of homelessness prevention
  • Develop relationships with key internal and external partners, in order to provide solutions such as access to properties, tenancy fraud, fire risks, and safeguarding
  • Maintain Records: Accurately record all casework in line with relevant policies and procedures, ensuring confidentiality and data protection guidelines are strictly followed
