An urgent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Estates Manager (Mechanical) to join the busy Estates & Facilities team at a West London based NHS Trust. This is a site-based position overseeing mechanical systems across multiple NHS properties within the Trust’s London estate. You will be responsible for ensuring all mechanical engineering and water safety systems are maintained, compliant, and operationally effective in line with HTMs and statutory requirements.
You’ll act as the Authorised Person (AP) for relevant systems (e.g. medical gas, ventilation, heating, water) and play a key role in managing both in-house maintenance teams and specialist contractors. This is a critical role supporting the Trust’s estate safety, infrastructure, and service delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Operational leadership of mechanical services across the Trust's London sites
- Acting as Authorised Person for mechanical systems (e.g. water safety, heating, ventilation, medical gas)
- Management of PPM and reactive maintenance, ensuring systems meet compliance standards
- Supervision of external contractors and internal trades teams
- Ensuring alignment with HTMs, HBNs, statutory regulations, and Trust policies
- Supporting capital projects and lifecycle works, including input into technical design and commissioning
- Delivering cost-effective solutions and managing allocated budgets
- Participation in the on-call rota for estates-related emergencies
- Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services
- Significant experience in mechanical systems within healthcare or similar complex estates
- NHS background preferred, particularly with Hard FM and compliance
- Strong knowledge of HTMs, statutory compliance, and H&S legislation
- AP/CP/Responsible Person status in relevant disciplines (e.g. water, ventilation, med gas)
- Proven contract management and team leadership skills
- Fully computer literate (MS Office, CAFM systems)
- Full UK driving licence required
- Standard DBS check will be required
