Photographer - Thames Valley Police


Lewis and Service Care are assisting with the recruitment for this exciting opportunity at Thames Valley Police.



Overall Purpose of the Role:
The Photographer will provide a comprehensive, high-quality photographic service to meet the needs of the force, capturing creative and original images for publications, campaigns, and operational activities.
Key Responsibilities:

  1. Produce creative and original images for publications and campaigns.
  2. Develop, manage, and maintain a digital photographic library in compliance with legislation and force policies, including managing consent forms and booking requests.
  3. Work flexibly across the force for planned and reactive operational activities, events, and major incidents.
  4. Attend force commendations and official functions to capture images of personnel.
  5. Manage and direct staff/the public to ensure a safe working environment while achieving the required images.
  6. Support digital and graphic design teams by creating images for use in social and digital media.
  7. Manage the photography process for senior leaders, capturing their portraits for internal and external content.
  8. Ensure photographic equipment is regularly maintained and serviced.


Dimensions of the Role:

  • Work with senior and chief officers at photo shoots and ceremonies.
  • Liaise with managers in HQ departments and Corporate Communications to provide photographs for the website, intranet, social media platforms, and publications.
  • Travel around the force, requiring a clean driving licence and access to a car.
  • Attend high-profile ceremonies and operations, sometimes outside of standard working hours.
  • Follow Health and Safety rules and risk assessment processes.


Required Skills and Expertise:

  • Recognised qualification in photography or equivalent experience (Essential).
  • Proficient in using professional photography equipment (Essential).
  • Experience in using and maintaining a digital library/database (Essential).
  • Knowledge and experience in using MS Office and Photoshop (Essential).
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of people and manage/direct them for photographs (Essential).
  • Experience of working as part of a team, planning and delivering projects to deadlines (Essential).
  • Proven experience in PR and press-related in-house communications work (Desirable).
