Public Affairs Officer

Our Client within the Public Service is currently recruiting for a Public Affairs Officer to join their team as soon as possible.

This is a full time, temporary position and the ideal candidate will have extensive experience working within the public sector and have experience working with a wide range of stakeholders within a large complex organisation or political environment.

The purpose of the role is to help to deliver the clients public affairs strategy, assisting with promoting key policy issues and campaigns, and on communicating the work and priorities of the organisation with key stakeholders, opinion formers and decision-makers. The post holder will also provide intelligence and internal briefings to senior officers and other staff on the clients engagement and public affairs issues.

The main responsibilities of the role:

  • Provide comprehensive intelligence and monitoring of parliamentary, and local authority business and external events to senior officers and staff, including regular briefings on key issues, as required.
  • Coordinate the clients contributions to answers for Mayor's Questions and briefings for People's Question Time, the State of London Debate and related events.
  • Manage the process for the clients responses to external consultations, including informing senior officers of new consultations, maintaining a database of relevant consultations and ensuring responses are submitted to deadline.

Requirements:

  • Working with a wide range of stakeholders within a large complex organisation or political environment.
  • Analysing information, conducting research and finding positive solutions to challenges.
  • Experience of using a range of IT applications, together with good keyboard skills and an awareness of how IT applications can be used.
  • Experience of working as part of a team with minimal supervision and demonstrating initiative and flexibility in order to deal with a range of tasks.
  • Good knowledge of political system of the UK, the workings of central government and how policy is made.
  • A general understanding of the workings of London and local government and the wider political environment it operates in.

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering between £20 - £23 p/hour Umbrella Ltd (approx. £510 - £575 p/week NET after deductions) dependant on experience and qualifications.
