Senior Information Governance Officer

Job Description

Service Care Legal are working with a Kent-based local authority who are seeking an experienced Senior Information Governance Officer to join their Legal and Governance team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead on key Information Governance (IG) initiatives and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including the UK GDPR, DPA 2018, FOI, EIR, and PECR.
 
ROLE:                  Senior Information Governance Officer
RATE:                   £35.00ph umbrella / £31.07ph PAYE inc. holiday pay / £27.72ph PAYE exc. Holiday pay
LOCATION:          Kent
CONTRACT:        Initial 3 months, with potential extension
 
Please note that hybrid preferred (fully remote considered).
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Provide expert IG and data protection advice to the council and a partner borough under a shared service agreement
  • Act as Deputy Data Protection Officer (DPO) in the absence of the Head of IG
  • Lead on privacy and data protection impact assessments and manage high-risk cases
  • Develop and oversee data protection strategies, policies, and internal audits
  • Maintain Records of Processing Activities (RoPAs) and support information asset owners
  • Manage complex IG cases, including data breaches and complaints

Requirements:
 
  • Degree in Law or relevant field; GDPR qualification preferred
  • Substantial experience in public sector IG roles
  • Strong knowledge of data protection, FOI, and related legislation
  • Proven ability to manage risk, lead audits, and influence stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
