Job Advert: Social Work Assistant – Children’s Services (Stoke-on-Trent)

We are currently recruiting for a Social Work Assistant to join the Children and Family Services team in Stoke-on-Trent.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children, young people and their families by supporting qualified social workers and delivering meaningful, direct support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of high-quality social work across a range of teams including Children’s Support and Safeguarding, Children with Disabilities, Fostering and Adoption, and more.

  • Undertake direct work with children and families, including life story work, parenting support, and supervision of contact.

  • Manage a range of statutory and non-statutory responsibilities including holding Child in Need (Section 17), Supervision Order and Special Guardianship Order cases.

  • Coordinate and chair Child in Need meetings, support assessments, and maintain accurate case recordings.

  • Work closely with families, carers and professionals to achieve the best outcomes for children.

Requirements:

  • Experience of direct work with children and families.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and relevant child protection legislation.

  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.

  • A Level 3 Diploma in Children & Young People’s Work or similar, or a willingness to work towards this.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a supportive and collaborative team.
