Job Title: Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) – Contract – Salisbury

Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) – Role Overview

As an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP), you will play a vital role within Wiltshire’s Mental Health team, providing social care interventions for individuals meeting the criteria for secondary mental health support. Working closely with adult social care and AWP, you will ensure that individuals receive respectful, person-centred care, safeguarding their wellbeing while respecting their rights under the Mental Health Act.

Your responsibilities will include completing urgent assessments for adults with suspected social care needs, responding effectively to referrals, undertaking duty work, and providing supervision to students or unqualified staff. The role demands integrity, empathy, and sound professional judgment, even in complex situations. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with safeguarding procedures and legislation relating to mental health and social care.

Candidate Responsibilities

• Conduct urgent mental health assessments and social care evaluations for adults.
• Respond promptly to referrals, managing duty work efficiently.
• Provide supervision and support to students and unqualified team members.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation and ensure compliance with policies.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver person-centred, respectful care.
• Participate in the AMHP hub rota and team meetings.
• Travel within the community for home visits, with a mix of office and home-working.

Candidate Requirements

• Registered AMHP with relevant mental health or adult care experience.
• Strong knowledge of the Mental Health Act, mental capacity, safeguarding, and social care legislation.
• Committed to respectful, compassionate, and person-centred practice.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and independently.
• Flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances.
