Assistant Mechanical Engineer - Contract Role in Preston

About the Role: Assistant Mechanical Engineer
The Assistant Mechanical Engineer will support the design, specification, and delivery of a broad range of Mechanical Building Services projects. You will have the chance to manage smaller projects independently while assisting senior engineers on larger, more complex schemes. Your responsibilities will include designing and specifying systems such as heating, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning, gas installations, and Building Management Systems (BMS). You will also play a key part in project planning, liaising with contractors and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Candidate Responsibilities:
- Design and specify Mechanical Building Services, including heating, hot water, legionella mitigation, ventilation, HVAC, gas, and BMS.
- Manage and deliver small-scale Mechanical Building Services projects from conception to completion.
- Support senior team members on complex projects.
- Prepare technical specifications, reports, and engineering documentation.
- Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and other design disciplines.
- Provide technical guidance and ensure compliance with legislation, building regulations, and standards.
- Assist with project planning, budgeting, and programme management.
- Liaise with contractors and internal stakeholders throughout project delivery.
Candidate Requirements & Skills:
- Recognised qualification in Mechanical Building Services Engineering or relevant industry experience.
- Membership of a professional institution such as CIBSE or working towards membership.
- Proven experience designing and delivering Mechanical Building Services projects.
- Knowledge of HVAC, legionella control, BMS, and current building legislation.
- Ability to support the delivery of small projects effectively.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to work proactively within a multidisciplinary team.

- Hourly Pay Rate: £16.70 PAYE (excluding holiday pay) | £21.14 Ltd via Umbrella
- Duration: 2-week contract (with possibility of extension)
