Assistant Team Manager - Children’s
Contract | Competitive Salary (depending on experience)

We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Team Manager - Children’s to join a dedicated Children’s Services team. About the Role:
The Assistant Team Manager - Children’s will support and deputise for the Team Manager to deliver high-quality child safeguarding and family support services. You will oversee a team of social workers, including newly qualified staff, and support their professional development. This role involves driving team performance, chairing multidisciplinary meetings, and contributing to service improvements in line with departmental policies and legislation.

Candidate Responsibilities:

  • Deputise for the Team Manager when necessary, supporting strategic decision-making and operational management.
  • Manage and support social work staff through recruitment, induction, performance reviews, training, and supervision.
  • Lead on key meetings including Strategy Discussions and Child in Need meetings, working collaboratively with partner agencies.
  • Monitor, review, and analyse team performance data and contribute to audit programmes.
  • Champion children and young people’s voices by ensuring their views are heard and acted upon.
  • Engage with parents and carers to ensure holistic service delivery and respond to feedback and complaints.
  • Assist in service development through reflective supervision and creative practice.
  • Manage resources efficiently, ensuring services are delivered in accordance with budgets and legislative requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and other tasks necessary for the role's scope.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • DipSW/BA in Social Work or equivalent.
  • 3+ years post-qualified experience with registration with the SW England (SWE).
  • Proven experience in supervising or mentoring social workers.
  • Knowledge of Child Protection, Care Proceedings, and safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of the Family Safeguarding model and social care frameworks.
  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills, especially in crisis situations.
  • Commitment to participatory and child-centred practice.
