Children’s Social Worker – Risk & Assessment Team Location: Bolton (Castle Hill)
Rate: £37 per hour
Organisation: Bolton Council (GM Collaboration)
Hours: 37 hours per week (Full-time)

Bolton Council is seeking an experienced and committed Children’s Social Worker to join its Risk & Assessment Team, based at Castle Hill and working across the borough. This is a dynamic frontline role within a fast-paced service, focused on safeguarding children and supporting families at the earliest stages of intervention.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake home visits to gather information and identify safeguarding concerns
• Complete initial child and family needs assessments
• Carry out Section 47 enquiries, including coordinating statutory meetings and closing cases where appropriate
• Deliver short-term interventions and progress cases through effective referrals to relevant teams
• Work within court processes, including initiating statutory action where required (e.g. Emergency Protection Orders and Care Proceedings)
• Participate in duty rota, providing frontline social work support

About You

• Qualified Social Worker with relevant registration
• Proven experience within a Referral & Assessment team
• Strong knowledge of statutory processes and safeguarding frameworks
• Ability to manage a varied and reactive caseload
• Confident in court work and decision-making under pressure

Working Arrangements

• Flexible working options available, subject to service needs
• Candidates must be able to undertake duty cover and home visits, sometimes at short notice
• Caseloads will cover the wider Bolton area, with office base at Castle Hill
