Family Practitioner – Staffordshire County Council (Contract: 2 weeks)

Staffordshire County Council is seeking a dedicated Family Practitioner to join its Children's Services team on a short-term contract. About the Family Practitioner Role

As a Family Practitioner, you will work closely with children, young people, parents, carers, and wider family networks. Your role will focus on delivering meaningful interventions that empower families, strengthen relationships, and promote safe, sustainable living arrangements. Working collaboratively with social workers and partner agencies, your work will contribute to reducing risk and supporting the long-term stability of families across Staffordshire.

Key Responsibilities of the Family Practitioner

  • Work directly with children and families using a restorative practice approach
  • Lead and contribute to Early Help Assessments and family support plans
  • Support children in need, those subject to Child Protection Plans, and Children in Care alongside social workers
  • Deliver targeted interventions around parenting, attachment, behaviour management, conflict resolution, emotional wellbeing, and safeguarding
  • Complete parenting assessments and contribute to wider assessments as required
  • Organise and facilitate family meetings, professionals' meetings, and group sessions
  • Develop creative support plans tailored to individual family needs
  • Maintain accurate case recordings, reports, and documentation
  • Build strong partnerships with external agencies for coordinated support
  • Be flexible in working hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, to meet family needs

Candidate Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3 in working with children and families (or equivalent)
  • Experience working directly with vulnerable children and families in a statutory or voluntary setting
  • Knowledge of child development, trauma impact, safeguarding legislation, and social care processes
  • Familiarity with issues such as domestic abuse, mental health, substance misuse, and poverty
  • Experience delivering parenting programmes or family interventions
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to manage conflict calmly and effectively
  • Strong IT skills and accurate record-keeping
  • Commitment to restorative and strengths-based approaches
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential car user role)
