About the Role:

North Wales Police is seeking a proactive and detail-focused Intelligence Researcher to join the Force Intelligence Department based at St Asaph.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong investigative and analytical skills to support operational policing activity across a range of intelligence functions. The successful candidate will play a key role in researching, developing and disseminating intelligence relating to Serious Organised Crime, major incidents, firearms intelligence, crime trends and ongoing operational activity.

Working closely with Intelligence Supervisors, Analysts, Operational Officers and external agencies, you will support tactical and strategic decision-making by producing accurate and timely intelligence products, reports, briefings and research.

This role offers a hybrid working arrangement; however, candidates must be available to attend the office full-time during the first week for induction and thereafter attend the office at least once per week or as directed by senior officers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and intelligence gathering using a wide range of police systems, databases and open-source intelligence (OSINT) platforms.
  • Analyse and evaluate intelligence from internal and external sources to support investigations and operational activity.
  • Produce high-quality intelligence reports, briefings, bulletins and profiles in line with the National Intelligence Model (NIM).
  • Support operational policing activity relating to Serious Organised Crime, major incidents and firearms deployments.
  • Conduct internet and social media research to support live investigations and intelligence development.
  • Prepare intelligence products and tasking documents to support operational decision-making.
  • Liaise with internal departments, external police forces and partner agencies regarding intelligence enquiries and information sharing.
  • Update and maintain Force intelligence systems with intelligence developed through research activities.
  • Assist with the development of subject profiles, target profiles and problem profiles.
  • Attend relevant briefings, tasking meetings and operational meetings where required.
  • Provide intelligence support during critical incidents and assist with risk assessments affecting officers, victims and the public.
  • Prepare statements and attend court where required in relation to intelligence research conducted.

Essential skills and experience:

  • NVQ Level III or equivalent relevant qualification and/or experience.
  • Proven research and investigative skills, ideally gained within an intelligence or law enforcement environment.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Awareness of law enforcement tactics and investigative practices.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Experience using computerised intelligence systems and Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
  • Understanding of intelligence handling, information management and confidentiality.
  • Ability to develop knowledge and understanding of:
    • National Intelligence Model (NIM)
    • Management of Police Information (MOPI)
    • Relevant legislation including RIPA and intelligence handling procedures
