Are you passionate about helping young people build brighter futures?

We're working in partnership with Bury Metropolitan Borough Council to recruit a Personal Adviser who will play a pivotal role in supporting looked after children and care leavers as they transition into adulthood. This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of vulnerable young people, helping them develop the confidence, skills and resilience needed to live independently and achieve their full potential.

If you're someone who believes every young person deserves the best start in adult life, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role As a Personal Adviser, you'll work closely with children in care, care leavers and partner agencies to provide practical, emotional and professional support from adolescence through to independence.

You'll become a trusted adult in a young person's life, helping them navigate education, employment, housing, health and the many challenges that come with becoming an independent adult.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with looked after children and care leavers.
  • Support the implementation of Care Plans and Pathway Plans.
  • Act as the statutory Personal Adviser for care leavers.
  • Visit young people regularly within placements and the community.
  • Provide practical and emotional support to young people, parents and carers.
  • Prepare young people for adulthood through life skills development and independence planning.
  • Promote education, employment and training opportunities.
  • Support young people to access suitable accommodation and sustain tenancies.
  • Work alongside Social Workers and multi-agency professionals to deliver the best possible outcomes.
  • Advocate on behalf of young people to ensure their voices are heard.
  • Complete assessments, pathway plans, reports and maintain accurate case records.
  • Organise and facilitate group work, participation events and activities.
  • Administer financial support where appropriate.
  • Support Children in Care Councils and Care Leavers Forums.
About You We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with young people and is committed to improving outcomes for children leaving care.

You will ideally have:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Childcare (or equivalent qualification).
  • Significant professional experience working with children, young people or families.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A sound understanding of child development and safeguarding.
  • Knowledge of the challenges faced by looked after children and care leavers.
  • Experience working alongside multi-agency professionals.
  • The ability to manage challenging situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Strong organisational and report writing skills.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity and anti-oppressive practice.
What's on Offer
  • Opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable young people.
  • Supportive and experienced management team.
  • Excellent training and ongoing professional development.
  • Collaborative multi-agency working environment.
  • Flexible and varied role with opportunities to develop specialist skills.
  • Mileage allowance available for business travel.
  • Opportunity to work with one of Greater Manchester's leading local authorities.
Additional Information
  • Full Time - 37 hours per week.
  • Based at The New Kershaw Centre, with travel across Bury as required.
  • Some evening work will be required to meet the needs of the service.
  • Enhanced DBS required.
  • Car user allowance payable.
Apply Today If you're ready to help shape brighter futures for young people leaving care and want to join a service that is committed to achieving the very best outcomes for children, we'd love to hear from you.
