We're working in partnership with Bury Metropolitan Borough Council to recruit a Personal Adviser who will play a pivotal role in supporting looked after children and care leavers as they transition into adulthood. The Role As a Personal Adviser, you'll work closely with children in care, care leavers and partner agencies to provide practical, emotional and professional support from adolescence through to independence.
You'll become a trusted adult in a young person's life, helping them navigate education, employment, housing, health and the many challenges that come with becoming an independent adult.
Key Responsibilities
- Build positive, trusting relationships with looked after children and care leavers.
- Support the implementation of Care Plans and Pathway Plans.
- Act as the statutory Personal Adviser for care leavers.
- Visit young people regularly within placements and the community.
- Provide practical and emotional support to young people, parents and carers.
- Prepare young people for adulthood through life skills development and independence planning.
- Promote education, employment and training opportunities.
- Support young people to access suitable accommodation and sustain tenancies.
- Work alongside Social Workers and multi-agency professionals to deliver the best possible outcomes.
- Advocate on behalf of young people to ensure their voices are heard.
- Complete assessments, pathway plans, reports and maintain accurate case records.
- Organise and facilitate group work, participation events and activities.
- Administer financial support where appropriate.
- Support Children in Care Councils and Care Leavers Forums.
You will ideally have:
- NVQ Level 3 in Childcare (or equivalent qualification).
- Significant professional experience working with children, young people or families.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A sound understanding of child development and safeguarding.
- Knowledge of the challenges faced by looked after children and care leavers.
- Experience working alongside multi-agency professionals.
- The ability to manage challenging situations with empathy and professionalism.
- Strong organisational and report writing skills.
- A commitment to equality, diversity and anti-oppressive practice.
