Service Care Legal are seeking an experienced Litigation Lawyer to join a busy local authority legal team, handling a varied caseload across criminal and civil matters.
ROLE: Locum Litigation Lawyer
LOCATION: Hertfordshire
RATE: £55ph umbrella / £48.46ph PAYE inc. holiday pay / £43,24ph PAYE exc. holiday pay
CONTRACT: 36 hours per week, initially 3 months with scope of extension
Please note this role would require office attendance 1 day per week.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage a mixed litigation caseload including criminal prosecutions, civil disputes, and housing matters
- Conduct advocacy in Magistrates’ and County Courts
- Advise on and progress criminal prosecutions (e.g. community protection, planning, fraud)
- Handle civil litigation including debt recovery, injunctions, possession, and judicial review
- Provide legal support on housing and homelessness cases
- Advise on licensing matters and attend committee hearings
- Draft legal documents, prepare evidence, and manage cases end-to-end
- Liaise with clients, courts, and external counsel as required
Person Specification
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX with local authority experience
- Strong background in litigation (criminal and/or civil)
- Confident advocate with court experience
- Ability to manage a diverse caseload independently
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
