Service Care Solutions are currently working in partnership with a reputable local authority, based in Exeter, which is looking to recruit a Locum Litigation Lawyer to join their Legal Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced litigation professional to take on a varied and meaningful caseload supporting key public services.
Role: Litigation Lawyer
Location: Exeter – hybrid/fully remote
Contract Length: 5 months ongoing
Umbrella Rate: £50 - £55ph
PAYE Inc. Rate: £44.006 - £48.4ph

Role: Litigation Lawyer

Key Responsibilities
- Taking instructions and advising on complex and often contentious legal matters across all Council services, requiring thorough research and strong legal expertise.
- Managing and conducting litigation in civil courts and tribunals, alongside prosecuting cases in criminal courts. This includes handling matters from initiation through to final hearings and appeals.
- Handling a diverse caseload including:
- Civil and commercial litigation
- Housing matters (e.g. possession proceedings, anti-social behaviour cases)
- Land possession applications
- Contractual disputes
- Regulatory enforcement, including planning, environmental health, and licensing prosecutions.
- A qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Legal Executive with 5 years or more post qualification experience in contentious work, including general civil and criminal litigation.
- Experience working within a local authority or public sector environment is desirable but not essential.
- Ability to manage a varied caseload independently and provide pragmatic legal advice.
- Hybrid/remote working.
- Weekly pay – the rate offered will depend on experience and interview performance.
- Flexible hours.
