About the Role: Independent Reviewing Officer – Children’s Social Care

As an Independent Reviewing Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring that statutory, policy, and procedural requirements are consistently met in relation to child protection, care reviews, and safeguarding. You will play a crucial role in chairing and overseeing Initial Child Protection Conferences, Children in Care Reviews, Adoption Reviews, Secure Reviews, and Foster Care Reviews. Your work will help shape positive outcomes for children and young people while ensuring their wishes and feelings are central to all planning and decision-making processes.

Candidate Responsibilities for the Independent Reviewing Officer – Children’s Social Care

  • Organise, chair, and follow-up on Child Protection Conferences and care reviews
  • Ensure the child's wishes and feelings are given due weight in all assessments and planning
  • Monitor Local Authority performance relating to children in care and challenge where necessary
  • Promote positive outcomes and hold professionals accountable for their responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies to meet statutory targets and future requirements
  • Contribute to the development of service standards in partnership with other agencies
  • Participate in resolving complaints and undertake independent investigations when required
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to coordinate services effectively
