Childrens Social Care - IRO (Independent Reviewing Officer) – Contract (7 months)

We are currently recruiting for a Childrens Social Care - IRO (Independent Reviewing Officer) position based in Darlington, offering a 7-month contract. Candidate Responsibilities for the Childrens Social Care - IRO Role

As a Childrens Social Care - IRO, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Chairing statutory meetings, mainly Child Protection Conferences and Children in Our Care Reviews.
  • Ensuring these face-to-face meetings are conducted effectively, with attention to safeguarding protocols.
  • Providing independent oversight and review to ensure the child's welfare is effectively promoted at all times.
  • Working closely with social workers, carers, and families to facilitate positive outcomes for children.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of care plans, adhering to statutory requirements.
  • Managing a caseload and maintaining accurate, detailed records of reviews and meetings.
  • Covering for a permanent team member who is seconded for 6 months, ensuring continuity of service.

Candidate Requirements for the Childrens Social Care - IRO Position

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in childrens social care.
  • Strong experience chairing Child Protection Conferences and Care Reviews.
  • Excellent knowledge of statutory frameworks and safeguarding legislation.
  • The ability to chair meetings confidently and impartially.
  • Good communication, organisational, and decision-making skills.
  • A valid social work qualification and registration.
