Are you an experienced Building Safety professional looking for a challenging and impactful role? Westminster City Council is seeking a highly skilled Principal Building Safety Manager to lead building safety initiatives across its housing portfolio. This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the forefront of building safety reform in one of the UK's most vibrant boroughs.

Position: Principal Building Safety Manager
Type: Contract
Duration: 12 weeks (initial), with a two-week contract period
Location: City Hall, 64 Victoria Street, London, SW1E 6QP
Rate: Approx. £370 per day (Umbrella), negotiable at interview


Candidate Responsibilities for the Principal Building Safety Manager

As the Principal Building Safety Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing critical safety operations and leading a multi-disciplinary team. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, implementing, and continuously improving building safety policies and procedures
  • Managing a team of Building Safety Managers, Structural Engineers, and Resident Engagement staff
  • Overseeing the production of Building Safety Case Reports and risk assessments
  • Ensuring all high-risk buildings are registered and compliant with Building Safety Act 2022 and Fire Safety Act 2021
  • Driving the "golden thread" of building safety information throughout Westminster’s housing stock
  • Coordinating safety programmes, planning and overseeing reactive and planned safety works
  • Providing expert fire and building safety advice to internal teams and stakeholders
  • Leading building safety committee meetings, reporting on compliance, risks, and KPIs
  • Supporting resident engagement strategies and safety information dissemination
  • Ensuring regulatory reporting and overseeing procurement for fire remediation projects

Skills & Experience Required

  • Extensive experience in building safety, surveying, or construction within housing (public or private sector)
  • Strong knowledge of building safety legislation, regulatory frameworks, and risk management
  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and safety programmes
  • Ability to interpret and develop safety case reports and fire risk strategies
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including working with residents, senior leaders, and contractors
  • NEBOSH Fire Safety Management (or equivalent level 3) and a degree in Building Surveying or Fire Engineering are desirable
  • Membership with professional bodies such as RICS, CIOB, or IFSM is advantageous
