Are you an experienced Resettlement Officer passionate about supporting vulnerable communities? We are seeking a dedicated Resettlement Officer to join a Local Authority Housing team on a part-time, contract basis in Ashford, Kent. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working flexibly in a role that offers comprehensive support to refugees and vulnerable households settling into the community.

About the Resettlement Officer Role

As a Resettlement Officer, you will manage a caseload of refugee and resettled households, providing practical advice, welfare support, and tenancy assistance to promote independent living. The role involves delivering holistic, person-centred support plans, conducting welfare visits, and liaising with external agencies to secure suitable accommodation and essential services. You will also carry out safeguarding assessments, make referrals, and support community cohesion initiatives.

Candidate Responsibilities

As a Resettlement Officer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a caseload of refugee and vulnerable households
  • Delivering tailored support plans and conducting regular welfare visits
  • Assisting clients to access housing, healthcare, education, benefits, and employment
  • Working closely with landlords, housing teams, and partner agencies
  • Conducting safeguarding assessments and making appropriate referrals
  • Liaising with interpreters and external organisations to facilitate service delivery
  • Maintaining accurate case records and ensuring all compliance requirements are met
  • Promoting community cohesion through collaboration with local organisations and groups

Candidate Skills & Qualifications

The ideal Resettlement Officer candidate will possess:

  • Previous experience in a similar role, such as Housing Support, Refugee Support, or Housing Officer
  • Strong case management skills for vulnerable clients and complex support needs
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Knowledge of welfare benefits, housing services, or tenancy sustainment (desirable)
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes
