About the Role
We are seeking an experienced SEN Assessment and Review Officer to join a busy Local Authority SEND team on an initial 3-month contract.
You will play a key role in ensuring the Authority meets its statutory duties under the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice 2015, supporting high-quality, legally compliant Education, Health and Care (EHC) processes.

Purpose of the Role
- Work directly with senior staff across a designated group of schools to ensure statutory compliance under the Children and Families Act 2014
- Coordinate and implement the statutory needs assessment and annual review process in line with the SEND Code of Practice
- Support and challenge schools, professionals, and families to reduce legal challenge and improve outcomes for children and young people
- Manage a complex caseload, ensuring timely and effective responses to changing SEND needs
- Assess individual children and young people and contribute to the development of aspirational, holistic, outcome-focused EHC Plans
- Supervise and oversee case coordinators, including daily allocation, monitoring, and quality assurance of work
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working within a Local Authority SEND / EHC statutory team
- Strong knowledge of EHC needs assessments and annual review processes
- Experience managing complex caseloads
- Ability to work with schools, families, and multi-agency professionals in a statutory context
- Experience supervising or overseeing junior staff (desirable)
- Essential: Working knowledge of the Impulse case management system
