Location: Fully remote
Contract: Initial 3 months (potential extension)
Hours: 37 hours per week
Rate: £280 per day (Umbrella) (£205 PAYE per day)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced SEND Casework Officer to join a Local Authority in the East of England. This role focuses on managing statutory processes relating to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for children and young people with complex additional needs.

You will play a key role in ensuring statutory duties are met while working collaboratively with families, schools, and multi-agency professionals to secure appropriate provision and positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of children and young people undergoing EHCP assessments and annual reviews
  • Oversee statutory processes in line with SEND legislation and required timelines
  • Draft, review and amend EHCPs to ensure accuracy, compliance and person-centred outcomes
  • Prepare and present cases to panels, implementing decisions effectively
  • Facilitate and attend multi-agency meetings, including annual reviews and co-production sessions
  • Work closely with parents/carers, schools, and professionals to resolve issues and agree provision
  • Negotiate placements and educational provision with providers
  • Maintain accurate case records and ensure systems are kept up to date
  • Contribute to service development, policy improvements and statutory compliance
  • Support responses to complaints, mediation and tribunal processes where required
Requirements

Essential:
  • Strong working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, SEND Regulations, and Children and Families Act
  • Experience managing EHCP processes within a Local Authority setting
  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload and meet statutory deadlines
  • Excellent written skills, particularly in drafting EHCPs and reports
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to negotiate, challenge and mediate effectively
  • Experience working with families and multi-agency professionals
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and work under pressure
Desirable:
  • Previous experience as a SEND/EHCP Casework Officer
  • Experience supporting tribunal or mediation processes
  • Background working directly with children and young people with SEND
