SEND Casework Officer

Contract: Initial 3 months
Hours: 35 hours per week
Rate: £40.88 per hour (LTD/Umbrella) (£30.42 PAYE an hour)

Liverpool City Council is seeking an experienced SEN Caseworker to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across settings within Liverpool.
Role overview As a SEND Casework Officer, you will work closely with schools, families, and multi-agency partners to ensure children and young people receive the right support through the graduated approach and statutory SEND processes. You will coordinate Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessments, plans, and reviews, ensuring compliance with statutory timelines and best outcomes for pupils.

Key responsibilities
- Support schools, settings, services, and families in applying the graduated approach to meeting SEND needs
- Coordinate the statutory assessment process for pupils with SEND and monitor progress against agreed outcomes
- Work closely with SENCos and headteachers, offering guidance and practical support
- Develop strong working relationships with internal teams and partners including SENISS, Occupational Therapy, Educational Psychology, Children’s and Adult Social Care, and Health services
- Manage the EHC planning process from assessment through to placement and review for a defined group of schools/settings
- Ensure statutory timescales are met for EHC plans
- Keep children, young people, and parents/carers central to all planning and review processes
- Attend annual reviews for vulnerable pupils (e.g. Looked After Children, Continuing Care, those at risk of exclusion)
- Promote and support placements within maintained settings across Liverpool wherever possible
- Recent experience within an education or Children’s Services environment, ideally as a SEND Caseworker/Officer
- In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014 and SENDIST regulations
- Experience coordinating statutory processes and facilitating review meetings
- Strong experience working collaboratively with multi-agency teams
- Experience supporting and engaging with parents and carers
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to manage complex caseloads and statutory deadlines
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office (advanced Excel and PowerPoint)
- Team-oriented with the ability to build effective professional relationships
