Send Officer - Contract Position
Are you an experienced SEND Officer seeking an exciting new challenge? We are currently recruiting a Send Officer to join a dynamic local authority team on a contract basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated professional with a strong background in SEND processes and a passion for supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
About the Role: Send Officer
As a Send Officer, you will be responsible for managing an allocated caseload of children and young people with SEND, ensuring compliance with statutory legislation including the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice (2015). Your role will involve coordinating Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessments, drafting EHC Plans, and ensuring all statutory timescales are met. This position requires working closely with families, educational settings, health professionals, social care colleagues, and post-16 providers to secure appropriate educational placements that meet individual needs.
You will promote the voice of children and young people throughout all casework activities, ensuring their views are recorded and influence the decision-making process. The Send Officer will maintain accurate records within the SEND Case Management System (Capita ONE), prepare case summaries for SEND panels, and support transitional reviews and planning for adulthood.
Candidate Responsibilities
- Manage a high caseload of approximately 200 children and young people with SEND
- Coordinate and facilitate EHC assessments, plans, and reviews within statutory timescales
- Collaborate with multi-agency partners to secure appropriate provision
- Promote the involvement and voice of children and young people in decision-making
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure data protection compliance
- Prepare and present case summaries and recommendations for SEND panels
- Monitor progress and review outcomes, escalating concerns where necessary
- Support timely phase transfers, transitions, and effective multi-agency working
- Attend and contribute to panels, reviews, and safeguarding processes
- Keep accurate, complete, and confidential records using Capita ONE

Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of three years’ experience as a SEND Officer
- Strong working knowledge of Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) and post-16/18 SEND processes
- Ability to work independently and manage a high caseload efficiently
- Experience attending and chairing annual reviews
- Proficient in Capita/MRI, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office
- Availability to work five days per week
