Job Advertisement: SEND Outreach Worker (SEMH Specialist Outreach Worker)

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly those with SEMH needs? We are excited to offer an excellent opportunity for a dedicated SEND Outreach Worker to join Calderdale Council's SEND Specialist Inclusion Team on a fixed-term contract. Position: SEND Outreach Worker (SEMH Specialist Outreach Worker)
Location: Calderdale (Hybrid – home, council offices, educational settings)
Contract: 2 weeks initially, with potential extension
Hours: 37 hours per week, full-time, term time only
Pay Rate: £125 per day (PAYE) / £165 per day (Umbrella)


Candidate Responsibilities

As a SEND Outreach Worker (SEMH Specialist Outreach Worker), your key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering casework supporting children and young people with SEMH/SEND needs in mainstream settings
  • Working directly with schools to embed recommendations and improve practice
  • Providing specialist assessment, intervention, and expert advice within SEMH and SEND fields
  • Delivering training and guidance to school staff and settings on inclusive practices
  • Collaborating with families to co-produce effective support plans
  • Contributing to Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessments and reviews
  • Troubleshooting barriers to inclusion and supporting problem-solving in educational environments
  • Maintaining accurate case records and supporting data collection for reporting
  • Supporting borough-wide SEND strategy development and continuous improvement initiatives

Candidate Requirements

To excel as a SEND Outreach Worker (SEMH Specialist Outreach Worker), you will need:

  • Experience working with children and young people with SEND, especially SEMH needs
  • Strong understanding of inclusive education and learning barriers
  • Knowledge of SEND legislation (Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice 2015, Equality Act 2010)
  • Experience delivering interventions and supporting staff development in educational settings
  • Confidence working directly with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Effective communication, planning, and organisational skills
  • Ability to deliver training and model best practices
  • A relevant SEND qualification and a Level 3 qualification or equivalent
  • A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle (reasonable adjustments considered)
