Job Description
Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in Somerset for a Senior Accountant to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will play a key role in the financial management, governance and oversight of a diverse portfolio of high-profile capital projects and funding programmes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the financial monitoring, forecasting and governance of major capital projects, ensuring accurate reporting of expenditure, funding streams, risks and project performance.
• Provide strategic financial advice and business partnering support to project managers, senior officers, directors and governance boards on capital investment decisions and project delivery.
• Support the management of the Council’s capital programme, including capital financing, grant claims, external funding compliance, asset register updates and year-end capital accounting.
• Prepare financial reports, options appraisals and statutory returns, while ensuring compliance with local government regulations, CIPFA codes and financial best practice.

Candidate Criteria

• Fully qualified accountant with significant post-qualification experience within a local authority finance environment.
• Proven experience of capital accounting, capital programme management, grant funding, capital financing and the preparation of capital-related statutory accounts disclosures.
• Strong business partnering and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders, directors, members and project boards.
• Demonstrable experience managing competing priorities, interpreting complex financial information and providing clear, commercially focused financial advice.
