About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Sessional Worker to join the Children, Schools & Families Directorate, supporting young people and families across the community.
This is a hands-on, community-based role where you will work directly with children, young people, and their families—supporting them to achieve positive outcomes and reduce risk.
Appointments typically last 3–4 hours between 08:00 and 20:00, with an additional 30 minutes paid per session for report writing.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide practical and emotional support to children and young people in the community
- Work with families and carers to promote positive parenting and stability
- Support engagement with education, training, employment, and key services
- Assist young people involved in early intervention, prevention, and youth justice pathways
- Act as an Appropriate Adult when required (in line with legislation)
- Encourage participation in constructive leisure, cultural, and sporting activities
- Maintain accurate case records and reports
- Work collaboratively with multi-agency professionals and partners
- Ensure all work is delivered in line with safeguarding and health & safety procedures
- Essential: Experience working with children and young people in a community setting
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to manage challenging situations with professionalism and resilience
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles
- Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Enhanced DBS required (due to direct work with children and vulnerable individuals)
- Travel required across the Bedford area
- Exposure to emotionally demanding situations, with appropriate support and supervision provided
