About the Role
The London Borough of Hackney is seeking an experienced Short Breaks Coordinator to lead the delivery, performance, and development of short breaks services for disabled children and young people.
This is a key role within Children & Families services, responsible for ensuring high-quality, accessible, and financially sustainable provision, while driving continuous improvement and strong partnership working across the borough.

About the Role
The London Borough of Hackney is seeking an experienced Short Breaks Coordinator to lead the delivery, performance, and development of short breaks services for disabled children and young people.
This is a key role within Children & Families services, responsible for ensuring high-quality, accessible, and financially sustainable provision, while driving continuous improvement and strong partnership working across the borough.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic and operational development of short breaks services
- Manage and monitor contracts, ensuring compliance, performance, and value for money
- Oversee allocation and monitoring of significant funding (c. £900k budget)
- Line manage a small team, including support and finance staff
- Produce detailed performance, financial, and impact reports
- Work closely with finance teams to track spend and forecast budgets
- Handle escalations and resolve complex issues with families and providers
- Strengthen service user involvement, working with parents/carers and local forums
- Collaborate with partners including health, education, and third sector organisations
- Support commissioning activity, including tender processes
We’re looking for someone with:
- Strong experience working with services for disabled children and young people
- Proven background in contract management and service monitoring
- Experience managing budgets and analysing financial/performance data
- Excellent stakeholder management and partnership working skills
- Experience leading or supervising staff
- Strong report writing and analytical abilities
- Understanding of commissioning, service development, and policy in children’s services
