Social Worker – Looked After Children Swansea Council

The Role Swansea Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join its Looked After Children (LAC) Team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive local authority, helping to improve outcomes for children and young people in care through high-quality, relationship-based practice.
You will work directly with children, young people, families, carers, and partner agencies to assess needs, manage risk, and deliver effective care and wellbeing plans in line with the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014.

Pay rate:
- £30.50 per hour (PAYE) exclusive of holiday pay
- £38.43 per hour (Umbrella) inclusive of holiday pay

You will work directly with children, young people, families, carers, and partner agencies to assess needs, manage risk, and deliver effective care and wellbeing plans in line with the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with individuals, families, groups, and communities to assess needs and circumstances
- Plan, implement, review, and evaluate social work interventions
- Manage a caseload of Looked After Children, ensuring their views, wishes, and feelings are central to care planning
- Champion early intervention, prevention, and partnership working
- Assess and manage risk in accordance with statutory frameworks and legislation
- Develop, implement, and review wellbeing plans
- Promote safeguarding while supporting children and young people to take appropriate, positive risks
- Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners to deliver coordinated services
- Plan and coordinate packages of care that promote independence and positive outcomes
- Maintain accurate, timely case records using IT systems
- Take responsibility for your own practice with appropriate supervision and support
- Reflect on and continuously develop professional practice
- A recognised Social Work qualification
- Social Care Wales registration
- Experience working with Looked After Children
- Strong knowledge of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014
- Excellent assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills
- The ability to work effectively with children, families, carers, and partner agencies
- A commitment to equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practice
- A current enhanced DBS (this role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974)
- You will be expected to work in line with Swansea Council’s policies, procedures, and financial regulations
- Regular supervision and ongoing professional development are integral to the role
