Service Care Solutions, are currently seeking a qualified Solicitor to join the Housing branch of the Scottish Government Legal Directorate (SGLD) on a fixed-term basis. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-profile and impactful work advising Scottish Ministers on housing and homelessness law.
In this role, you will provide expert legal advice to Scottish Ministers on a broad range of housing and homelessness matters. You will play a key part in supporting the implementation of the Housing (Scotland) Act 2026, particularly the tenants’ rights provisions, as well as advising on homelessness legislation and the operation of the short-term lets licensing regime.
Key Responsibilities
Location: Victoria Quay, Edinburgh
Contract: 1 June 2026 – 31 August 2026 (with potential 6-month extension)
Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday–Friday)
Salary: Minimum salary: £62,111( open to candidate setting their own)

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality legal advice on housing and homelessness law
- Support the implementation of tenants’ rights provisions under the Housing (Scotland) Act 2026
- Advise on homelessness legislation and policy development
- Analyse complex information and legislation to inform decision-making
- Must be a Scottish qualified Solicitor.
- A strong understanding of public and administrative law in Scotland, with confidence working with legislation
- Knowledge of human rights law, or a willingness to develop expertise in this area
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret information and provide clear, well-reasoned legal advice
