Service Care Solutions are looking for a Solicitor to join the Natural Resources, Forestry and Climate Change Branch within the Marine, Planning and Natural Resources Division. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a varied and high-profile workload in an area of significant Ministerial priority. The role is available on an interim basis to cover maternity leave.
The post-holder will provide legal advice on a broad range of matters, including climate change, emissions reduction, biodiversity, forestry regulation, and the implementation of the recently passed Natural Environment (Scotland) Bill. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in primary and secondary legislation and contribute to Scotland’s environmental and climate priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
Job Title: Solicitor – Natural Resources, Forestry and Climate Change Branch (Maternity Leave Cover)
Division: Marine, Planning and Natural Resources (within SGLD)
Contract: Interim until 1 June 2027 (around 12 month)
Work Arrangement: Full-time or part-time; Hybrid working with flexibility
Salary: Negotiable (open to candidate setting their own rate ) Minimum £62,111 (payeINC: £276.66/ LTD day rate:£326.04)

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide in-depth legal advice on climate change and natural environment matters to officials, senior officials, and Ministers
- Assess legal risk and lawfulness, recommending strategies to manage or mitigate issues
- Advise on the exercise and scope of Ministers’ functions and duties in a fast-paced environment
- Draft legislation, including Scottish and UK Statutory Instruments
- Handle potential judicial review matters
- Solicitor or advocate entitled to practise in Scotland
- Strong legal analysis skills, considering multiple sources of information
- Ability to communicate complex legal issues effectively in a strategic and practical context
