Specialist Family Support Worker Band 8 (Contract) – Children with Disabilities Team

Darlington Borough Council is looking for a Specialist Family Support Worker Band 8 to join our Children with Disabilities Team on a contract basis. This is an exciting pilot role as we work towards implementing the Families First reforms within children’s social care. You will provide direct support to children, families, carers and professionals, ensuring needs are assessed, planned for, and reviewed effectively.

Salary / Payrate

  • Band 8 contract role, 37 hours per week
  • TOIL available: any hours worked over 37 hours can be claimed as TOIL.

Candidate Responsibilities

As a Specialist Family Support Worker Band 8, you will be responsible for:

  • Completing assessments of children’s care and support needs
  • Developing and updating care plans to ensure children’s needs are met
  • Chairing reviews of paid services and associated care plans
  • Working in partnership with parents/carers, children, and multi-agency professionals
  • Completing Social Care Advice for children undergoing an EHCP assessment
  • Supporting statutory help and support within the Children with Disabilities Team
  • Maintaining face-to-face direct support for families and children, in line with service and diary requirements

Darlington operates a blended approach to working. While you may work from the Town Hall (Darlington) or from home depending on the service/directory needs, the direct face-to-face support offered to families and children must remain in place.

Benefits

  • Contract position with a clear 37-hour working week
  • TOIL to reflect any additional hours worked
  • Blended working model (office and home working depending on diary/service needs)
  • Opportunity to contribute to Children’s Services pilots supporting Families First reforms
  • Working within a supportive multi-agency team alongside professionals and practitioners
