The service provides high?quality neurodevelopmental assessments and intervention pathways, and due to continued expansion, is seeking an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join their permanent multidisciplinary team.
Purpose of the Role The post?holder will provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) input within the autism diagnostic pathway. Key responsibilities include:
- Contributing to autism diagnostic assessments using ADOS?2 as part of a multidisciplinary diagnostic team.
- Completing detailed post?diagnostic speech, language and communication assessments to identify co?occurring SLCN and plan targeted interventions.
- Developing and delivering evidence?based communication interventions.
- Supporting service development, clinical governance, and offering training or mentorship to junior SLTs and wider staff.
- Undertake direct assessments with children, young people and/or adults, including formal and standardised ADOS?2 assessments.
- Work collaboratively with Psychologists, Paediatricians and Psychiatrists to provide high?quality SLT input into clinical formulation and diagnostic decision?making.
- Produce high?quality written reports summarising assessment outcomes, diagnostic conclusions and communication/interaction profiles as part of the multidisciplinary diagnostic process.
- Following a diagnosis (or where autism is suspected), assess and identify speech, language and communication needs, including expressive/receptive language, pragmatic skills, social communication and AAC where appropriate.
- Develop and deliver individualised therapy programmes (1:1, group, or programme?based), setting measurable goals and regularly reviewing outcomes.
- Provide consultation, training and guidance to families, carers, education staff and adult services on communication strategies, reasonable adjustments and environment?first approaches.
- Liaise with education, health, social care and voluntary sector partners to ensure communication needs are incorporated into individual plans, including transitions (e.g., school transitions, transition to adult services) and discharge planning.
- Minimum 5 years post?qualification experience as a Speech and Language Therapist
- Formal ADOS?2 training completed
- Completed a minimum of 30 ADOS assessments
- Strong understanding of autism diagnostic pathways and communication profiles
- Excellent clinical reporting and documentation skills
- HCPC registration
- Stable permanent employment with an established Autism?focused organisation
