STREET CLEANSING TEAM LEADER

Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced Street Cleansing Team Leader to join a busy local authority service in Greenwich.
This is a hands-on role where you will support and lead a team of Street Cleansing Operatives, helping to maintain clean, safe and attractive public spaces across the borough. The role combines team leadership, driving and practical street cleansing duties, making it ideal for someone with previous environmental services or street cleansing experience who is looking to take the next step in their career.
The Role
You will help coordinate and supervise a team carrying out street cleansing activities across roads, public open spaces, car parks, carriageways and town centres. You will provide clear instructions to team members, monitor standards and ensure work is completed safely and effectively.
The role also involves driving vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes, completing vehicle checks and carrying out practical cleansing duties in all weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities
- Support and lead a team of Street Cleansing Operatives, providing clear instructions and guidance.
- Carry out street cleansing across roads, public spaces, car parks, town centres and carriageways.
- Drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes in accordance with relevant driving, safety and operational requirements.
- Complete daily vehicle walk-around checks and report any defects appropriately.
- Ensure vehicles, equipment and safety equipment are kept clean, safe and in good working condition.
- Carry out manual sweeping, litter picking, road channel cleaning and general environmental cleansing.
- Collect and move sacks, bins and bulky items as required.
- Assist with manual distribution of road salt and other seasonal duties.
- Work independently or as part of a team to respond to operational requirements.
- Act as a reversing assistant when required.
- Communicate professionally with residents, businesses, visitors and colleagues.
- Complete basic mobile device processes and work records as required.
- Follow all Health & Safety, manual handling and accident reporting procedures.
- Work flexibly across shifts, including occasional weekends and bank holidays.
- Previous experience within street cleansing, environmental services, waste, grounds maintenance or a similar operational service.
- Experience of supporting or leading a team and giving clear instructions.
- Full manual C1 driving license.
- Valid DCPC (Driver Certificate of Professional Competence).
- Valid tachograph card.
- Good understanding of vehicle safety and daily defect checks.
- Ability to undertake physically demanding duties, including walking up to 8 miles per day, manual sweeping and moving bulky items.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Good customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Understanding of Health & Safety, manual handling and public safety requirements.
- Willingness to operate and learn new equipment, machinery and mobile technology.
- Flexibility to work between 06:00 and 20:00, including weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.
