Street Scene Manager
Location: Doncaster (Operational role covering multiple sites across the borough)
Contract: Temporary
Hours: 37 Hours per Week | Flexible Shift Patterns (Monday to Friday – 5 days or compressed 4-day week available)
Pay: £20.72 per hour PAYE (Exclusive of Holiday Pay) | £27.00 per hour Ltd via Umbrella (Negotiable)

Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced Street Scene Manager to join a local authority on a temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced operational manager with a background in Street Scene, Environmental Services, Grounds Maintenance or Street Cleansing to lead frontline services and ensure high-quality service delivery across the borough.
This is a highly visible operational management role where you will provide leadership to frontline teams, manage day-to-day service delivery and work closely with key stakeholders to ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with agreed standards and performance targets.
The Role
As Street Scene Manager, you will be responsible for the operational management of Street Scene services, including street cleansing and grounds maintenance. You will lead operational teams, manage resources and budgets, monitor performance and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, environmental regulations and council policies. Working across multiple sites, you will play a key role in maintaining service standards while driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day delivery of Street Scene services, including street cleansing, grounds maintenance and associated environmental services.
- Lead, motivate and support operational teams, setting performance expectations and monitoring productivity.
- Plan and coordinate staffing, vehicles, equipment and resources to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Respond to operational issues, complaints and service requests, ensuring timely resolutions.
- Monitor service standards, SLAs and KPIs, implementing improvements where required.
- Manage operational budgets, monitor expenditure and identify opportunities for efficiency savings.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, environmental regulations and council policies.
- Work collaboratively with councillors, community groups, contractors and internal departments to deliver high-quality services.
- Use digital systems to manage scheduling, reporting and operational records.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, customer focus and operational excellence.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven experience managing Street Scene operations within a local authority or public sector environment.
- Strong knowledge of street cleansing, grounds maintenance and environmental services.
- Experience managing frontline operational teams, including performance management, coaching and staff development.
- Experience coordinating resources, including people, vehicles and equipment, to deliver efficient services.
- Budget management experience, including monitoring expenditure and identifying efficiencies.
- A sound understanding of Health & Safety legislation and environmental compliance.
- Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Strong IT skills with experience using digital scheduling, reporting and operational management systems.
- The ability to work under pressure, prioritise workloads and adapt to changing operational demands.
- A commitment to delivering high-quality, customer-focused services.
- A Full UK Driving License and access to your own vehicle (essential).
