Candidate Responsibilities for the Substance Misuse Nurse As a Substance Misuse Nurse, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering comprehensive assessments, care planning, and clinical interventions for clients with substance misuse needs
- Acting as a senior clinical decision-maker and providing expert guidance to nursing and support staff
- Supervising, mentoring, and appraising staff to support ongoing professional development
- Promoting evidence-based, trauma-informed, person-centred care approaches
- Collaborating with psychosocial, mental health, and physical healthcare teams to ensure integrated service delivery
- Leading the development and review of clinical protocols, policies, and pathways aligned with national standards such as NICE
- Participating in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical governance activities
- Ensuring accurate data management via systems like SystmOne and NDTMS, maintaining compliance with CQC standards
- Coordinating opioid substitution therapy (OST), including detox planning and medication reviews
- Maintaining effective partnerships with prisons, community services, and stakeholders for seamless patient care
- Managing workforce planning, rota management, and ensuring safe staffing levels
- Upholding safeguarding, confidentiality, and information governance standards
- Facilitating service user involvement and peer-led recovery initiatives
- Supporting research projects, audits, and reflective practice to enhance service quality
