Candidate Responsibilities as a Substance Misuse Nurse As a Substance Misuse Nurse, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality clinical care to individuals accessing substance misuse services. Your key responsibilities include:
- Conducting physical and mental health assessments and facilitating appropriate referrals to primary or secondary healthcare services.
- Completing alcohol assessments in line with Alcohol Policy to determine safe detoxification requirements.
- Assisting with opioid titration to achieve optimal Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) dosing, liaising with team members and community pharmacists.
- Providing education on health promotion and screening for blood-borne viruses (BBVs), including Hepatitis A/B vaccinations.
- Working within integrated care pathways for individuals infected with BBVs (Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV).
- Undertaking community alcohol and opioid detoxification at the service or in the service user’s home.
- Performing phlebotomy, interpreting blood results, and using findings to guide treatment decisions and referrals.
- Referring patients for specialist inpatient services when necessary and liaising closely with hospital teams.
