Substance Misuse Nurse – Ellesmere Port & Chester A new opportunity is available for an experienced Substance Misuse Nurse to work within a community-based drug and alcohol service supporting adults with a range of substance use needs. The role involves delivering high quality clinical interventions, promoting recovery, and ensuring safe, effective healthcare access for service users.

Role Overview Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide clinical support to individuals with drug and/or alcohol dependency. Your role will involve delivering evidence?based interventions, supporting harm reduction, working closely with recovery teams, and ensuring safe clinical management throughout a service user’s recovery journey.
You will work across community hubs, engaging with service users, supporting stabilisation, and helping improve physical and mental wellbeing.

You will work across community hubs, engaging with service users, supporting stabilisation, and helping improve physical and mental wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a wide range of clinical interventions within community based drug and alcohol services
- Improve access to healthcare through:
- BBV (Blood-Borne Virus) testing and treatment
- Full health assessments and ongoing reviews
- Ambulatory detox support
- Clinical observations and monitoring
- Provide safe, evidence?based nursing care aligned with national guidelines and service policy
- Carry out essential healthcare procedures such as:
- Wound care
- ECGs
- Physical health checks
- Medication administration and management
- Participate in harm reduction practices such as:
- Naloxone training and overdose awareness
- Safer injecting advice
- Alcohol withdrawal monitoring
- Maintain mandatory competencies including Basic Life Support, anaphylaxis management and responding to medical emergencies
- Work collaboratively with recovery workers, prescribers, keyworkers, and external health services
- Keep accurate clinical records, risk assessments, and documentation
- Support individuals in stabilisation, relapse prevention, and long?term health improvement
- Escalate clinical concerns appropriately and safeguard vulnerable adults where required
- Valid nursing qualification and NMC registration (RGN/RMN/RNLD)
- Clinical experience in substance misuse, community mental health, primary care, or a related acute setting
- Confident providing physical healthcare interventions and managing emergencies
- Strong understanding of harm reduction and recovery?focused approaches
- Excellent communication, organisational skills, and ability to work independently within a team
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and work in a non?judgemental, person?centred way
