We are seeking a dedicated Substance Misuse Nurse to join our team in Tower Hamlets on a 3-month contract basis. About the Role: Substance Misuse Nurse – Tower Hamlets

As a Substance Misuse Nurse, you will be an essential part of a multidisciplinary team providing clinical interventions tailored to individuals accessing our services. Your expertise will support safe detoxification, harm reduction, blood-borne virus screening, and outreach initiatives aimed at promoting recovery and well-being. Working under the guidance of the Lead/Cluster Lead Nurse, you will uphold organisational standards, maintain professional integrity, and ensure that every individual receives empathetic, confidential, and effective care.

Candidate Responsibilities: Substance Misuse Nurse

  • Conduct physical and mental health assessments, including blood-borne virus screening and vaccinations
  • Support community alcohol detoxification and opioid substitution therapy (OST) management
  • Assist in blood sample collection, labelling, and processing, ensuring timely results for clinical decisions
  • Deliver harm reduction advice and distribute naloxone kits to staff and service users
  • Provide wound care assessments and basic dressing procedures
  • Lead health promotion and educational initiatives on drug and alcohol issues
  • Work collaboratively with external medical teams and social care services
  • Respond effectively to medical emergencies, including overdose and anaphylaxis
  • Advocate for safeguarding and promote the welfare of vulnerable adults and young people
  • Maintain accurate records, adhere to confidentiality policies, and contribute to service audits and evaluations
  • Participate in team meetings, uphold professional standards, and support colleagues through training and supervision
