About the Role - Tenancy Sustainment Officer
As a Tenancy Sustainment Officer, you will deliver high-quality tenancy support services to both new and existing tenants, helping them sustain independent living through proactive support, tailored interventions, and collaboration with external agencies. This is a crucial role in preventing tenancy breakdowns and promoting community stability.
Key Responsibilities of the Tenancy Sustainment Officer
- Conduct pre-tenancy affordability and sustainability assessments
- Manage a caseload of tenants requiring tenancy support
- Develop, review, and monitor individual support plans
- Provide one-to-one, telephone, and crisis support to vulnerable tenants
- Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies including DWP, social services, and voluntary organisations
- Identify safeguarding concerns and escalate as needed
- Assist tenants with welfare benefit claims, budgeting, and income maximisation
- Promote arrears prevention and contribute to tenancy sustainment initiatives
- Maintain accurate case records and report on support outcomes
- Engage tenants actively to reduce tenancy failures and abandonments
Candidate Profile – Tenancy Sustainment Officer
The successful Tenancy Sustainment Officer will have previous experience working within housing support, homelessness, or tenancy management, supporting vulnerable individuals with complex needs. Essential skills and experience include:
- Experience working within social or supported housing environments
- Knowledge of welfare benefits, income maximisation, and financial inclusion
- Understanding of safeguarding procedures and risk assessments
- Proven ability to partner with statutory and voluntary agencies
- Strong communication, organisational, and case management skills
- Ability to work independently managing a varied caseload
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use
