About the Job
Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a respected local authority client for an experienced Tree Inspector to join their Forestry and Arboriculture team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified arboricultural professional to play a key role in managing tree safety, public risk, and environmental stewardship across a diverse portfolio of highways, public spaces, and council-owned land.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out detailed tree inspections, assessing tree health and structural integrity, maintaining inspection records, and supporting the management of tree-related risks. The role will also contribute to monitoring tree diseases, including Ash Dieback, and ensuring compliance with arboricultural best practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine inspections of highway and landowner trees to identify defects, hazards, diseases, and structural issues.
  • Assess tree condition and determine appropriate remedial actions in accordance with industry standards.
  • Investigate and establish tree ownership where defects pose a potential risk to public safety or property.
  • Produce detailed inspection reports, technical recommendations, and site plans.
  • Monitor and record the completion of remedial works and provide follow-up inspections where required.
  • Maintain and update tree inventories, inspection records, and associated database systems.
  • Undertake surveys and monitoring programmes relating to Ash Dieback and other tree pathogens.
  • Issue work instructions to contractors and inspect completed works to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Provide technical arboricultural advice to colleagues, stakeholders, contractors, and members of the public.
  • Support wider forestry and arboricultural operations as required.
  • Assist with emergency response activities, including occasional out-of-hours attendance during severe weather events or other incidents.

Candidate Requirements
Essential
  • Level 3 Arboricultural qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 4 years' practical and/or technical arboricultural experience.
  • Strong knowledge of tree identification, tree biology, pathology, physiology, and visual tree assessment.
  • Experience assessing tree defects, diseases, disorders, and structural safety risks.
  • Ability to prepare accurate technical reports and maintain detailed records.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage professionally with members of the public, landowners, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Competent IT skills and experience using databases and digital record systems.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload across multiple sites.
Desirable
  • Level 4 Arboriculture qualification or equivalent.
  • Arboricultural Association Technician membership or similar professional accreditation.
  • Experience monitoring Ash Dieback and other significant tree diseases.
  • Contractor supervision and work inspection experience.
  • Attendance at relevant industry seminars, conferences, or CPD activities.

About You
You will be a proactive and knowledgeable arboricultural professional with excellent observational skills and a strong commitment to public safety. Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, you'll be capable of undertaking extensive site inspections across varied terrain while maintaining high professional standards.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and report-writing abilities.
  • Confidence in making technical decisions independently.
  • A positive and collaborative approach to team working.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

What is on Offer
  • Opportunity to work with a highly respected local authority forestry service.
  • Diverse and rewarding workload across highways, countryside, and public assets.
  • Professional development opportunities.
  • Flexible and supportive working environment.
  • Mileage and approved expenses paid in accordance with client policy.
  • Overtime or time off in lieu for authorised out-of-hours work.
