Are you an experienced professional with a strong background in Special Educational Needs (SEN) and tribunal processes? We are seeking a dedicated Tribunal & Mediation Officer to join a busy Education and SEND service on an interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a local authority, providing impactful support across complex SEND cases, disputes, and tribunals. If you have expertise in SEND legislation, dispute resolution, and mediation, we want to hear from you!
Tribunal & Mediation Officer Responsibilities
As a Tribunal & Mediation Officer, your key responsibilities will include:
- Represent the Local Authority at SEND Tribunals, safeguarding the authority’s position
- Manage complex SEND casework, mediations, and disputes efficiently
- Prepare detailed evidence, responses for complaints, inquiries, and Ombudsman investigations
- Monitor and track tribunal cases and outcomes to support ongoing service improvement
- Collaborate effectively with parents, schools, legal representatives, and multi-agency teams
- Ensure compliance with current SEND legislation and statutory processes
- Maintain accurate records and manage a demanding caseload independently
Candidate Requirements
The ideal Tribunal & Mediation Officer will possess:
- Strong knowledge of current SEND legislation and statutory processes
- Significant experience in SEND case management, appeals, and tribunal settings
- Proven experience in mediation and dispute resolution within the SEND sector
- Confident representation skills when working directly with local authorities and tribunals
- Excellent organisational skills to manage a complex caseload
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure
- Experience with SEN tribunal case preparation and management
