About the Role Are you passionate about supporting vulnerable people in times of crisis? We are looking for a committed Accommodation Support Officer to join the Housing Options team at Bolton Council. In this vital frontline role, you will help arrange and manage temporary accommodation for individuals and families facing homelessness.

Working within Adult Services, you'll play a key part in sourcing placements, supporting customers with a wide range of needs, and ensuring the smooth operation of dispersed accommodation services, including hotels, B&Bs and emergency placements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and arrange suitable emergency accommodation placements for individuals and families in housing crisis.

  • Provide out-of-hours support to both the Emergency Duty Team and the ABEN/Outreach Team.

  • Offer practical support and guidance to customers, including those experiencing safeguarding or vulnerability concerns.

  • Help customers with issues such as budgeting, benefits, life skills, and housing applications.

  • Develop support plans and promote independence in managing tenancy responsibilities.

  • Maintain accurate records, manage accommodation charges, and ensure secure cash handling.

  • Liaise with internal departments and external agencies to improve outcomes and access to services.

  • Address anti-social behaviour issues, including enforcing tenancy agreements and recommending legal action where needed.

  • Assist with administrative duties, case file management, and health & safety procedures across temporary accommodation sites.

What We're Looking For
  • Sound knowledge of homelessness and safeguarding issues.

  • Ability to assess housing needs and make safe, timely accommodation placements.

  • Experience of working with vulnerable individuals or families in crisis.

  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written – across all levels.

  • Confident decision-making, problem-solving, and prioritisation skills.

  • Able to work both independently and as part of a multi-agency team.

  • IT literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and diary management skills.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
