Job Title: Assistant Accountant
Salary: £28,606 - £33,683 per annum
Hours: 37
Type: Permanent
Location: Birmingham, B37 (Hybrid)
Start Date: ASAP

The Assistant Accountant plays a vital role in financial oversight, generating reports, and supporting Budget Holders. Collaborating closely with the Accountant, this position is key to providing prompt management information, maintaining robust financial controls, and facilitating accurate forecasting.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial guidance and support to Budget Holders on income and expenditure for effective financial controls and forecasting.
  • Conduct budgetary control meetings to ensure effective budget management.
  • Regularly reconcile control accounts.
  • Assist in producing information for statutory accounts and monthly management accounts, including forecasting, for Budget Holder review.
  • Support the setting of budgets within the annual Business Plan, emphasizing Value for Money to Budget Holders.
  • Generate or update financial reports from Open Accounts and prepare ad hoc reports as required.
  • Offer advice, training, and coaching to Finance Technicians, enhancing the team's skills.
  • Identify and propose enhancements to procedures and documentation to streamline operations, in consultation with the Accountant.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Adhere to the company's Health and Safety policy and comply with all related policies and procedures, including Customer Involvement, Equality and Diversity, and Safeguarding.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed within the job's scope and grading.

Requirements

  • GCSEs Grades A-C in Maths and English or equivalent qualifications.
  • Part-qualified in AAT or a comparable qualification.
  • Experience with computerised accounting systems.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in an accounting role, providing reliable financial information to Budget Holders.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel.
  • Understanding of the Housing sector.
