Job Summary:
We are currently seeking an experienced and compassionate Band 6 Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN) to join the South Gloucestershire Recovery Team on a locum basis. The role involves working within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high-quality mental health care to adults with complex and enduring mental health needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled CPN looking for a flexible, well-supported role with competitive pay and a focus on community-based recovery. Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as an Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) for accuracy checking of dispensed medications
  • Deliver clinical pharmacy support on hospital wards, including medicines reconciliation and patient counselling
  • Work collaboratively with pharmacists and wider multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective medication use
  • Supervise and support junior pharmacy staff and assistants
  • Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to NHS and GPhC standards
  • Manage a defined caseload of service users with complex mental health needs in the community.
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, risk assessments, and care planning in collaboration with service users and carers.
  • Deliver recovery-focused interventions in line with NICE guidance and local policy.
  • Work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team including psychiatrists, social workers, support workers, and psychologists.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records using electronic systems (RiO experience desirable).
  • Participate in CPA (Care Programme Approach) reviews, safeguarding processes, and crisis planning.
  • Act as a key point of contact for service users and carers, providing support and signposting as appropriate.
Essential Requirements:
  • Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) qualification (evidence required)
  • Minimum of 1 year NHS ward experience with direct patient interaction
  • GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician
  • Strong communication and clinical skills
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Availability Monday to Friday for the duration of the contract

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with valid NMC registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a Band 6 CPN or equivalent within a community mental health setting.
  • Experience of working with adults with complex mental health problems.
  • Sound understanding of the CPA process, risk management, and safeguarding procedures.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car for community visits.
