Business Support Officer (Caretaking & Venue Maintenance)
Permanent – Full Time
Salary: £26,000 - £35,000
Location: Wigan
Are you a hands-on professional with a passion for keeping spaces safe, functional, and welcoming? Do you have a background in caretaking or building maintenance, with skills in joinery, plumbing, or fire safety? We’re looking for a Business Support Officer to help maintain and manage a vibrant community venue, regularly used for events and weddings.
About the Role
As a Business Support Officer, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of a busy community venue. This is a practical, site-based role involving routine building checks, light repairs, event set-up, and ensuring health and safety compliance. You’ll be a key point of contact during functions and events, providing support and ensuring the venue remains safe, clean, and well-prepared for use.
Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out general caretaking duties, including opening/locking the venue and setting up for events
  • Conduct routine maintenance, minor repairs, and safety checks
  • Support compliance with fire safety procedures – experience with fire door inspections is desirable
  • Identify and report any property issues that require further attention
  • Work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends, to support scheduled events
  • Liaise with contractors and Council teams as required
The Candidate
We’re looking for someone with:
  • Previous experience in a caretaking, facilities, or maintenance role
  • Skills in joinery, plumbing, or general building repairs (desirable)
  • An understanding of fire safety practices and ideally experience with fire door inspections
  • A proactive, practical approach and willingness to work flexibly to meet the needs of the venue
  • Good communication skills and a customer-focused attitude
